Thailand tiger tourism
Thailand tiger tourism thrives on cruelty. Rakesh Rakhee calls it “fun time with big cats in my Thailand trip.” We call it idiocy. In a viral clip, this Indian tourist grins as trainers lift a tiger’s paws onto his shoulders while feeding the animal milk to keep it calm. He laughs. The tiger endures—knowing punishment follows if it resists.
This is not a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.” It’s a circus act sold as tourism. Thailand’s industry thrives on captive tigers—drugged, chained, and broken for photo ops. Rakhee is one of many Indians chasing photos banned at home. In India, such stunts are illegal. In Thailand, money buys cruelty. The comparison with predators who exploit the vulnerable is not far-fetched.
Every selfie fuels the cycle. More cubs bred, more adults confined, more wild instincts crushed. The tiger appears calm only because its spirit is beaten out. Until we confront the reality of zoos and captivity, Thailand tiger tourism will keep prospering on suffering.
