Sahyadri Tiger Reserve

The Sahyadri Tiger Reserve is set to receive eight tigers from Tadoba and Pench, in what officials call a major step for conservation in the Western Ghats. With just 14 tigers recorded locally, the translocation aims to strengthen the population and secure the reserve’s role in the wider corridor.

Three males and five females will be moved under strict veterinary care, with monitoring before, during, and after relocation. Authorities emphasize that minimal trauma will be caused and that quarterly reports will track progress. Experts remain cautious, but many agree that if done carefully, this initiative could bring balance to the Sahyadri landscape.

Real success will depend on ensuring prey recovery and safe connectivity. By focusing on conservation practices, habitat protection, and community engagement, the project could become a model for future efforts. For now, it offers hope that Sahyadri may again sustain a thriving tiger population.
