Johor state lies
Malayan Johor state lies keep repeating, louder each year, and the tigers keep dying. The latest horror: a Malayan tiger carcass stuffed in the trunk of a Perodua Alza (a rebranded Daihatsu car) in Felda Tenggaroh (Johor), as reported this week. Shot six times (!) in the head, first trapped, then executed, then hidden like contraband. Three suspects were arrested, yet again presented as a big “success” by the authorities.
Authorities talk tough, promising “no compromise,” better law enforcement, better intelligence. Just they did many times before. But the record is clear: poaching continues unchecked.
Johor’s statements ring hollow because Malaysia has failed for decades to protect its national symbol. Less than 150 Malayan tigers remain, perhaps closer to 125 now. Every dead tiger pushes the species further toward collapse. Political announcements don’t stop bullets. What would? Permanent armed patrols, real intelligence networks, and an end to the corruption that greases this trade. Also transparency is needed: how many arrests have been made, how many sentences? Without it, these promises are worth nothing.
For now, the truth stands: another tiger gone, another public show of words. Tigers need action, not recycled speeches. More empty rhetoric only accelerates tiger habitat destruction. And please: no more Johor state lies, it’s just not credible anymore.
