Achanakmar Tiger Reserve
Chhattisgarh has delivered rare good news for tiger conservation. The state’s tiger population has doubled in just three years, rising from 17 in 2022 to 35 in the 2025 survey. Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced the results while chairing the State Wildlife Welfare Board, describing it as proof that focused conservation can yield results – what a surprise!. Achanakmar Tiger Reserve now holds the highest number of tigers in the state.
The achievement is linked to stronger protection measures, new patrolling routes, and active involvement of the forest department. Plans are also underway to translocate tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Udanti-Sitanadi and Guru Ghasidas reserves, spreading recovery more evenly across the state.
Encouragingly, rangers have also documented signs of other species thriving, showing that tiger-focused conservation benefits entire ecosystems. With conflict and poaching pressures never far away, the rise at Achanakmar Tiger Reserve proves that when resources and political will align, recovery is possible. Hope still roars here. Achanakmar Tiger Reserve underlines how effective conservation practices can turn the tide for tigers.
