Media manipulation

A video from Harbin’s Siberian Tiger Park went viral after a baby Amur tiger “ambushed” a keeper, pouncing from behind before being scooped up like a doll. Social media framed it as adorable. In reality, it’s media manipulation.

At least four cubs are seen in the clip—already separated from their mothers. This is standard practice at the park, where more than 50 cubs are born each year. With around 1,200 tigers on site, it is not conservation—it is mass production. Cubs are forced into human contact to stage “cute” encounters for visitors, selling the illusion of love while selling tickets.

The park draws 1.3 million visitors annually. Each “ambush” video is marketing. Each cub becomes a product. Behind the scenes, adults spend their lives in enclosures, far from any wild forest. This is not the future of Amur tigers. It is captivity dressed up as care, profit dressed up as protection, media manipulation dressed up as conservation. This is the truth of zoos and captivity.
