Corbett’s dumb proposal for full-day safaris

dumb proposal

A dumb proposal is now on the table: the Uttarakhand forest department wants full-day safaris in the Corbett tiger reserve. Officials claim it would enrich tourists and boost revenue. In reality, it is more intrusion sold as “eco-tourism.”

Corbett holds 260 tigers in fragile habitats. Yet the same department caught in a ₹215 crore scandal — felling 6,000 trees for a fake “tiger safari” — now demands more access. This dumb proposal ignores that corruption, roads, and noise already threaten the reserve.

Tourism is not conservation. More jeeps, more noise, more pressure will not save tigers. Our feature on Tiger Habitat Destruction shows how human projects fragment ecosystems.

India’s first national park should not be treated as a cash cow for officials and operators. A dumb proposal like this insults conservation, insults law, and insults every tiger that still calls Corbett home.
