Gudalur tiger
A Gudalur tiger is now the target of a massive cage hauled in from Kerala. Villagers demanded action after cattle kills, and the forest department responded by tying a live cow inside the trap — as if the tiger cannot see the steel bars.
This is not conservation. This is cruelty staged for human appeasement. The Gudalur tiger has not harmed a single person, yet officials treat it as a criminal. Live bait is desperation disguised as management, ignoring the real failures: no protected corridors, no cattle enclosures, and no accountability for human negligence.
Trapping every tiger that takes livestock will not solve conflict. It will only normalize brutality and punish animals for surviving. Our feature on Human–Tiger Conflict shows why coexistence, not cages, is the only future.
Villagers get a show of “tough action.” The tiger gets a cage it never deserved. Everyone loses — especially the wild.
